MIAMI - SOUTH BEACH
The first time I visited Miami was March 2009. I took it upon myself to tour the city from an artistic perspective, viewing the beachside city as a hub of art and design rather than of cheesy clubs and bars. To this end, I hired a bike from one of the local vendors http://www.bikemiamibeach.com/ and rode around. The Art Deco buildings along South Beach did not disappoint nor did the Wall Art in Miami’s Design District. Also impressive was Kenneth Treister’s striking memorial to the Holocaust “Love and Anguish”, a 40-foot-tall sculpture of an outstretched hand, reaching to the sky. Renown for its Latino community I enjoyed traditional Cuban food including rice, beans, plantains and of course mojitos.
