The Social Anthropologist

I am a global nomad with a social conscience traveling the world taking in the sights, sounds and tastes of different societies and cultures. This is what i have discovered along the way.

Fast Forward to 2011 and Rio is offering a totally different experience once again. Coaxed into another visit to this beautiful city by four of my closest friends in NYC who happen to be Brazilian, in 72 hours this city has not disappointed. From being greeted at the airport with pan con queso ( bread infused with cheese) straight to Leblon beach followed by a visit to Jobi, a Brazilian after beach favorite for beers and bites this place is great at 2pm or 2am. Rice with octopus, bite sized pieces of steak, sausage, farofa with banana, patatas fritas ( fries) and many many beers covered the small table. A short nap and then on to Via Isabel to see one of the Samba Schools rehearse for Carnaval 2012. A rehearsal, which by any other definition is a party, sees the Brazilian people come alive to the sound of the drums, even if you have no rhythm you can’t help but dance. After sambaing our preverbials off, and meeting the King of Carnaval, we continued to Rocinha to see a brazilian band called Santa Clara.
