Sol Artsenato, Jardin Botanica, HAP Gallery and Bike Riding 

I visited the Sol Artesanato, a non governmental, non profit school created to teach impoverished men and women arts and crafts as a trade. The school has over 150 students that learn pottery, basket making, sewing and weaving, learning a trade to feed their families. The school also collects works from artisans all over Brazil to be sold through the school’s store helping to improve young artisans income enabling them to support their families. The school also provides care packages for each student to assist them and their families. We spent the afternoon in the area of Jardin Botanica ( The Botanical Gardens). The quaint colonial style houses in the area are painted in faded pastel colours and you can feel the presence of Christ overlooking the area from the hilltops above. There are plenty of traditional Brazilian cafes and restaurants such as Jojo Cafe and De Horto Bar a restaurant whose bright colors are tantalizing even before you try the food. The best place for lunch in the area though is “Coiuve Flor” literally meaning the cauliflower. It is buffet style measured by the kilo. The Japanese that I have been salivating over is present with salmon skin nigiri and deep fried salmon philadelphia rolls. They also have an interesting selection of Brazilian food including arroz con carambola ( rice with starfruit and saffron) Tapioca de alho poro ( traditional Brazilian sweet) and File De Tilapia ( Brazilian fish). After lunch stroll over to HAP Gallery and have a look at the way the property has been renovated and the beautiful artworks inside http://www.hapgaleria.com.br.

If your’e not too exhausted you can hire a bike to ride down Ipanema and Leblon beach at sunset. All you have to do is register online, release the bike by cell phone, ride around and then return the bike to any dock that you see on the route map  www.movesamba.com.br/bikero
