Zbra Hostel - Av. San Martin Leblon, Rio De Janeiro, 552135962386 www.zbrahostel.com Although I am well past my hosteling days I can still appreciate a good hostel when I see one. I walked past this gem in Leblon and checked out the rooms and communal area. Its position is key, its brand new and and reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

Lunch

For lunch locals like to eat and drink on the go so the city is dotted by hundreds of bars and cafes where you can pick up an epamanda (deep fried pastries filled with cheese, meat, vegetables or seafood), acai, sandwich or fruit juice on the go.

Surprisingly Rio has a large Japanese community which has sprouted a myriad of Temakeria’s or sushi roll bars. Koni stores are the most popular and provide the freshest  sushi and sashimi at a reasonable price. Whilst there tuna and salmon is delicious it is worth trying their deep fried salmon and philadelphia rolls or spearhead tuna cones. www.konistore.com.br
