The Social Anthropologist

I am a global nomad with a social conscience traveling the world taking in the sights, sounds and tastes of different societies and cultures. This is what i have discovered along the way.

BRAZILIAN CUISINE

Traditional Brazilian food is something not to be missed. Varying in flavor and style by region there are a few main staples including Acai for breakfast (berry drink), Pao de Queijo ( cheese infused bread) and fejaio com arroz (rice and beans). Farofa is another traditional favorite made from manioc meal ( otherwise known as yuka). Its best when mixed with banana as it adds a sweetness to every bite.

Rice and beans are usually served with a variety of meat or fish. If served at a local Churasscaria you pay a fixed price for the meal and are served various meats such as chicken, beef and sausages on skewers in combination with the aforementioned sides until you have had enough.

Popular snacks are Coxinha’s, Pastel’s or Empadas.  Coxinha’s are chicken croquettes, Pastels are deep fried pastries with a variety of fillings including cheese, meat or seafood. The shape of the Pastel determines the contents. Empadas are pot pies again that are made with a variety of fillings.

Cachaça made from sugar cane is the main ingredient in the national drink, the Caipirinha and is lethal even in small doses.
