The Social Anthropologist

I am a global nomad with a social conscience traveling the world taking in the sights, sounds and tastes of different societies and cultures. This is what i have discovered along the way.

Itaipava

About an hour and a half North of Rio de Janeiro, by car, are the mountainous ranges of Itaipava. Valleys, forests and waterfalls make this area one of the most beautifully lush areas of Rio. I was lucky enough to spend Christmas here in Boa Vale Eseperanca - the Valley of Good Hope with close friends whose property has been in the family for 20 years and has been a labor of love to build and grow. Scenic walks through the forests or simply around the town offers the eyes a treasure trove of colors and smells including hydraengas, eucalyptus trees and cacti. Although we didn’t partake in anything but eating, walking, eating, swimming and eating some more there are lots of activities available in the area such as horse riding, tours of the Imperial Museum and The Crystal Palace as well as adventure walks. The town caters to tourists with a plethora of restaurants and small pousadas offering warm Brazilian hospitality.
