The Social Anthropologist

I am a global nomad with a social conscience traveling the world taking in the sights, sounds and tastes of different societies and cultures. This is what i have discovered along the way.
ASPEN
Divided into four mountains Snowmass, Ajax, Buttermilk and Highlands Aspen is a picturesque ski resort with great Apres ski life as well as culinary offerings. Peak Season begins the week before christmas until the end of February. Australians, Brazilians and French descend upon the city for leisurely skiing as well as backcountry and cat-skiing. Brazilians tend to stay in Snowmass at places like Stonebridge whilst Australians and French tend to inhabit Aspen at places such as the Little Nell and for a funkier atmosphere and a great Apres Ski bar, the Sky hotel.
My favorite mountain was Ajax not only because we could step straight out of our hotel onto the mountain, but also and maybe more importantly, because of the truffle oil fries at Ajax Tavern situated at the foot of the mountain. Buttermilk is a great mountain to try your hand at snowboarding but if like me you think you fractured your pelvis by Day three stick to what you know! Parallel skis all the way.
The Apres ski scene is between 4-7pm and the best places to drink in merriment with friends and strangers in my opinion are Ajax Tavern ( for a Hot Buttered Rum), Sky Bar at the Sky Hotel or the Little Nell Bar. Aspens restaurant scene is equally enticing offering everything from Nobu inspired Japanese to Wild Game cooked in log cabins in the mountains.
