VERMONT - Stratton
Only four hours North from New York, Stratton in Vermont is a fun get away in Winter for a bit of sun, snow and skiing especially for long weekends like Presidents Day. Although 2012 has not been a stellar ski season in the USA, it is still a trip, quite literally, to get out of the fast pace of New York and make your way to a quaint little skiing village such as Stratton. Given Stratton is a small village, ski rental is quick and easy and relatively inexpensive. Skis, boots, helmet and lift ticket will set you back about $126 a day. Accommodations in Stratton mainly consists of condominiums that can be rented out on a nightly, weekly or monthly basis. The best site to look for accommodations, restaurants and further information on Stratton is www.stratton.com. We stayed at Founders lodge in a three bedroom apartment. It was perfect. Minutes walking from the slopes and the ski village.

All of the recommended restaurants in Stratton are located in the Village Square. You can eat in or take out.
Verde - 19 Village Lodge Road, VT - Verde was recommended to us by locals as it has fresh and locally sourced fare. Foie Gras, Mussels, and Ahi Tuna are some of the delicious appetizers at Verde. Make sure you book ahead as it is one of the more popular restaurants on the mountain and is often booked out weeks in advance. www.verderestaurant.info
