Sunset Spots
From Navy Beach to the Montauket, Montauk offers some of the most beautiful places to watch the sun go down with beautiful music, beautiful views and delectable food. These are four of the best places to eat, drink and chill in the afternoon well into the evening.
Navy Beach - Perched on a peddle beach by Fort Pond Bay, Navy Beach’s nautically inspired interior is inviting and emblematic of its water side post. We visited Navy Beach mid afternoon on a Sunday and watched as the boats moored themselves in the distance and boatgoers were carted to and from shore. Serving coastal cuisine with an emphasis on sustainable food practices, our first bottle of wine went down nicely with our Montauk menu favorite fish tacos. Between skipping stones across the water, watching the sunset and seeing lightning strike in the distance as a storm crossed over, we pondered why on earth we had never visited this little slice of heaven in Montauk. Open for lunch and dinner, Navy Beach is now our resident go to spot for mid afternoon delights and group dinners. Did mention that there was a band too……. 17 Navy Road, Montauk NY 11954, 6316686868 www.navybeach.com
Montauket - Nestled in between cliffs, offering beautiful views of Fort Pond Bay, the Montauket is one of the most picturesque places to watch the sun go down in Montauk. Totally chillaxed with delicious seafood offerings such as mussels in white wine sauce, seared cajun tuna and calamari the accompaniment of food, wine and sunset is made all the more sweet if married with a chocolate brownie sundae! Juicing is for the week…not the weekend! 88 Firestone Road, Montauk, NY (631) 668-5992
Dureya’s Deck - If you are a fan of anything lobster, and enjoy eating it in a chilled out setting, you will salivate from the moment you enter the deck at Dureya’s. Another spot for relaxed dining on Fort Pond Bay, Dureya’s serves whole steamed lobster with corn and chips on simple paper plates and with lots of napkins to clean up the mess. The lobster rolls are sublime and go down a treat as you watch the birds perch themselves on the deck in front of you. Just remember when visiting it is BYO ( bring your own) so if you wish to have a beer with your seafood come prepared. 65 Tuthill Road, Montauk, NY 11954 631 668 2410 www.duryealobsters.com
Surf Lodge - The Surf Lodge is undoubtedly one of the top four contenders to watch the sun go down in Montauk. Beachgoers start converging on the lodge as early as 3pm to garner prime position for the sunset and the evening’s festivities. Live music emanates from the deck as the lodge is consistently able to attract eclectic bands that fit well with the beach setting. New owners and management of the lodge have seen an overhaul of the kitchen and the interior design which now yields a delicious menu of soft shell crab and the most scrumptious calamari and seafood pasta. The mojitos are free flowing and the atmosphere festive well into the evening when the band switches to a DJ and dance party kicks off - 183 Edgemere Street, Montauk, NY 11954 631 668 1562
