All time favorite Restaurant - Munferit
Yeni Carsi Cad No 19 , Galatasaray 34425, Istanbul /Beyoglu, Turkey
We had been struggling for days to find an authentic Turkish restaurant that had delicious turkish food in an authentic, yet stylish, atmosphere. All the concierge recommendations were white table clothed western restaurants that really didn’t display their Turkish roots. Finally the Manager of our The Hotel Bosphorous suggested that we join her for dinner one evening at her favorite restaurant, Munferit. Nestled in between the curved streets of Beyoglu near Taksim, Munferit is one of my all time favorite restaurants in the world. As soon as we arrived and were seated at a table dimly lit by candleight underneath an overhaning tree I knew this would be a memorable meal. The menu consisted of carefully crafted Turkish Meze each described in divine detail and thoughtfully accompanied by a great wine list. Fava Beans with salman tartaki and fish roe, anchovy butter on toast ( unbelievable taste) traditional turkish sausage and grilled feta wrapped in parchment were just some of the dishes that we could not get enough of. Accompanying the meal with Reki ( traditional Turkish drink) may have meant we ended the night early but not before we devoured dessert. On weekdays it offers a more romantic setting but on weekends, a DJ spins tunes insude and transforms the restaurant into a good old dance party.
